A mainstay of the HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens, Singapore Cricket Club return to the annual event in search of advancing to the quarter-finals of the Cup competition for the first time after an encouraging display last year.
The amateur club, who play in Singapore’s Cosmo League, put on an impressive showing against more illustrious opposition in 2018.
Singapore Cricket Club suffered narrow 1-0 defeats by both Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion before beating HKFA Red Dragons by the same scoreline.
But again, Singapore Cricket Club lost in the Plate quarter-finals, this time to Kitchee, having been defeated by HKFA Red Dragons at the same stage in 2017.
The team’s best performance at Hong Kong Football Club came in 2011 when, after reaching the Plate final, they were unlucky to lose on penalties to HKFC Captain’s Select.
The ensuing three years saw a hat-trick of Plate semi-finals, with a group stage draw against Sunderland in 2013 among the highlights.
Singapore Cricket Club also shared a goalless draw with West Ham United in their 2016 tournament opener.
