HKFC Captain’s Select features players from Hong Kong Football Club’s five competitive men’s teams and they are a regular feature at the annual seven-a-side tournament.
HKFC Captain’s Select advanced to the quarter-finals of the Cup for the first and only time in 2017 following a second placed finish in Group B, narrowly losing 1-0 to Olympic Marseille.
The local side’s best performance came back in 2011 when they won the Plate for the first and only time after claiming a penalty shootout victory over Singapore Cricket Club following a 2-2 draw in the final.
In 2015, the HKFC Captain’s Select managed another semi-final appearance in the Plate, only to lose 1-0 to Hong Kong Football Club as the Happy Valley residents went head-to-head.
Of the six teams at the long-standing institution, Hong Kong Football Club play in Hong Kong’s first division while Lucky Mile feature in the second division and Albion, Colts and Wanderers compete in the Yau Yee League.
Last year, HKFC Captain’s Select lost to both Aston Villa and Cagliari Calcio at the start of the group stage before bouncing back with a 1-0 win over Kitchee.
They then exited the competition following a 2-0 defeat by the HKFA Red Dragons in the quarter-finals of the Plate.
